typing practice

Regular typing practice is the only reliable way to get faster. Ten to fifteen minutes a day beats one long session once a week, because your muscles learn the key positions through repetition. Use this page every day: pick a mode, type the text, then compare your result with yesterday. Try to keep accuracy above 95 percent at all times.

Typing exercises for every skill

Change the text mode to target your weak spots. Sentences build everyday typing fluency. Quotes add capital letters and punctuation. Numbers train the top row, which is the slowest part of the keyboard for most people. Words mode drills common English vocabulary so high-frequency words become automatic.

A simple practice plan

Week one: two minute sentence tests, focus on accuracy. Week two: add quotes and numbers, keep the same two minutes. Week three: try five minute tests to build endurance. Week four: switch back to one minute and compare your WPM with week one. Most people gain 10 to 20 WPM in a month with this routine.

Typing test FAQ

What is a typing test?

A typing test measures how fast and accurately you type. You type a passage of text while the test counts your words per minute (WPM), accuracy and errors.

How is WPM calculated?

WPM = (correct characters ÷ 5) ÷ minutes elapsed. The industry standard treats every 5 characters as one word, so longer words count more. Raw WPM ignores errors, while net WPM subtracts them.

How long should a typing test be?

1 minute is the most popular length and is enough for a quick check. Longer tests (3, 5 or 10 minutes) give a more stable result because they average out short bursts of speed and fatigue.

Is this typing test free?

Yes, completely free with no sign up, no account and no ads inside the typing area. Your past results are stored only in your own browser (localStorage), never on a server.

How do I type faster?

Practice daily for 10–15 minutes, prioritise accuracy over speed, keep your wrists relaxed and your fingers anchored on the home row (ASDF JKL;). Learn to use all ten fingers rather than hunting and pecking with two.
