Hindi typing test

A Hindi typing test measures how fast and accurately you type Devanagari script. Your result is shown in words per minute, where every 5 characters counts as one word. Typing full Hindi sentences — with matras, conjunct consonants and the क्ष, त्र, ज्ञ clusters — is the most realistic way to measure everyday Hindi typing speed.

How to improve Hindi typing

Practise with real sentences rather than isolated letters, keep your fingers on the home row, and look at the screen instead of the keyboard. Hindi adds matras above and below the consonants, so slow down at first to learn those key positions; accuracy first, then speed.

Devanagari and typing speed

Devanagari is a syllabic script: most consonants carry an inherent अ vowel, and matras change that vowel. Typing real sentences trains the frequent conjuncts — क्ष, त्र, व्र, ज्ञ — and the matras ा ि ी ो ै that appear in almost every Hindi word.

Practising Hindi typing

This Hindi typing test uses natural, everyday sentences, so you practise the real word patterns of Hindi — common endings like -ना, -कर and -है — together with the । full stop and the punctuation you meet in real Hindi writing. Timed Devanagari practice is also the format of most Indian typing exams.
