custom typing test

A custom typing test is one that fits your practice instead of the other way around. This test is configurable end to end: six durations from 15 seconds to 10 minutes, four text types, five languages, light and dark themes, and a line width that adapts to your screen. Configure it once, and every result after that is comparable, because you changed nothing but your typing.

What you can customize

Duration: 15, 30, 60, 120, 300 or 600 seconds. Text type: sentences for everyday fluency, quotes for capitals and punctuation, numbers for the top row, and words for high-frequency vocabulary. Language: English, Spanish, Chinese, Hindi and Arabic. Theme and width: light or dark, and a text column that fits your screen so your eyes never leave the line you are typing.

Build your own typing test routine

Start with one minute of sentences to get a baseline. Add quotes for two weeks until capitals cost you nothing, then numbers until the top row is no longer slow. Switch to five minutes when you want endurance, and back to one minute when you want to see your top speed. A custom test is the only one that can follow that plan for a month without ever asking you to sign up.

Custom typing test FAQ

Is this typing test customizable for free?

Yes, completely free with no sign up. Duration, text type, language, theme and line width are all configurable in your browser.

What durations can I choose?

15, 30, 60, 120, 300 and 600 seconds. Short durations suit quick checks; long ones give a more stable average WPM because they smooth out bursts of speed and fatigue.

Can I change the language of the typing text?

Yes. The test runs in English, Spanish, Chinese, Hindi and Arabic. Arabic and Hindi also render right-to-left correctly.

Which text type should I pick?

Sentences for everyday fluency, quotes to train capitals and punctuation, numbers for the slow top row, and words to drill common vocabulary. If unsure, start with sentences.

Is my configuration saved?

Your past results are stored only in this browser (localStorage). The configuration itself resets on reload, so bookmark a page set to the duration you practice most.

Can I use this for a custom typing test at work or school?

Yes. It is free, needs no account, and works offline once the page is loaded, which makes it easy to run for a group without collecting anyone's data.
